About Us

The Constitution

Stafford Players has survived so successfully as a group over so many years partly due to the stability and continuity given by a written Constitution and the Committee system which runs it. The Constitution sets out in detail the minutiae of how the Society operates, and a copy of this is given to all members.

Annual General Meeting

This takes place at the end of each season in June. Its major business is to elect the Committee for the following season.

The Committee

Cttee1The Annual General Meeting elects the Committee for the next season, which consists of the following posts: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Publicity Officer, Social Secretary, Members and Patrons Secretary, and three ordinary members. The structure is flexible, and can change in response to changing needs.

Post-production meetings

The Monday after each production, a Post-Production meeting is held open to all members, to consider how all aspects of the show have gone, and highlight any difficulties which might need to be addressed. This is also the opportunity for any other administrative business, like the election of committee members to fill any vacancies etc.

Members of the group are kept in touch through regular emails. Phone calls keep anyone without IT access in touch

Membership and Subscriptions

There are two levels of membership – full membership or patron membership, and subscriptions are payable at the time of the AGM for the next season. Full membership is currently £23 (student rate £11.50).
To become a patron, we ask for a minimum fee, which is currently £5, but any further donation are very welcome. Patrons are kept in touch with all our production news,  and receive vouchers for a free programme for each production . All patrons are warmly welcome at all our social events.

1 Gatehouse exteriorWe aim to stage three plays each year in November, February and May, and our production venue is The Gatehouse in Eastgate Street, Stafford.

We usually perform in the Malcolm Edwards Theatre (the MET), a studio theatre which is a flexible space with a seating capacity of between 80 – 120, depending on how it is used. Productions run Tuesday to Saturday.

Occasionally we perform in the main Gatehouse Theatre, with a seating capacity of  500.  In this case, productions run Wednesday to Saturday.

We are also popular performers at events across Staffordshire with our one-off ‘Words and Music‘ and ‘Murder Mystery’ programmes.

Our main meeting and rehearsal venue is the Perkins Engineering Social Club on the Tixall Road, Stafford ST16 3UB.  When we have a play in production, we are there every Monday and Thursday evening from 7.30pm. Potential new members are very welcome to come along to these rehearsals, but please – always contact us first to check. We also use the County Officers Staff Club in the town centre for occasional meetings.
