Catherine's father, a professor at the University of Chicago, and a mathematical genius has recently died and she had given up her own ambitions to nurse him through his last long period of mental illness. Then his graduate student discovers an important proof about prime numbers in his papers. Catherine claims it as her own, but is this true, or are there grounds for her terrible fear of inheriting her father's instability, as well as his genius?

 This play won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and the Tony Award for Best Play
