The Accrington Pals

by

Peter Whelan

A touching and sometimes emotional play set in the early years of the First World War, as the patriotic optimism of the country starts to diminish and the true horror of warfare slowly becomes more obvious. The play explores the frightening experiences of the men at the front and the women who were left behind to face social changes, deprivation and the lies of propaganda. . This compassionate play portrays the overwhelming effects of war on an archetypal Lancashire mill town and the suffering of its inhabitants.
